Meet Simret: The career gap she couldn’t ignore became the path she was built for

Before

Before joining ALX, she was working as a Business Analyst in a role that kept her at a comfortable distance from the hands-on engineering work she was beginning to realise she wanted to be closer to, and while the role gave her a solid professional foundation it also made the gap between where she was and where she wanted to be feel increasingly difficult to ignore.

Decision and During

During her time at ALX she took a significant step forward by pursuing backend development and completing an ALX-sponsored Udacity Nanodegree in Cloud Development, building through that process not just the technical skills she had been looking for but the confidence to believe that a more technical career path was genuinely within reach and that she was capable of walking it.

After

She made that transition, and today she works as a DevSecOps Engineer, combining development, security, and operations to build and maintain secure, scalable systems in a role that would have felt out of reach from where she started and now feels exactly like where she was always meant to be.
