Professional Foundations is the critical first step for all ALX learners. It is designed to help you build a strong, essential base for your future career success.

While you may be eager to jump straight into technical skills, this programme equips you with the 8 key meta-skills needed to thrive in any career in any field. These aren’t just academic concepts; they’re real-world, hands-on skills like effective communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leading yourself and others.

Learners should expect to commit 20-30 hours per week.

The access fee is $5 per month, which learners are expected to pay for the duration of their chosen programme(s).

ALX provides:

  • Hands-on experience – Work on real projects, build a strong portfolio, and gain practical skills.
  • A creative community – Join a network of fellow creatives, mentors, and industry experts for inspiration, collaboration, and career support.
  • Industry connections – Get access to partnerships with top creative companies, local studios, and global brands.

In order to access the ALX ecosystem and your chosen programme, you will be required to pay the $5 All Access, giving you unlimited access to the full ALX programme portfolio, community, events and activities, rewards, benefits and, of course, our partners.

If you meet our eligibility requirements and successfully register for an ALX Programme of your choice, the cost of your programme will be sponsored and you will not be required to pay anything other than your monthly $5 All Access.

You will be able to register for as many programmes as you like concurrently, so long as all prerequisite requirements and business rules are followed.

Learners can choose to pay either in their local currency or in USD. ALX fees are charged in USD and therefore are subject to exchange rate fluctuations.

 ALX accepts a wide variety of payment methods, including (but not limited to):.

    NB. For all non-card transactions (such as bank transfers, Applepay, GooglePay, FawryPay or mobile transactions) a 2% non-refundable processing fee may apply.

All Access payments are non-refundable and compulsory for learners to complete their programme. You will not receive a refund if you are unable to complete the programme, however you will be able to pause your programme and restart your learning at a later date. Please note that the deferment cut-off dates vary by proramme and after these dates you would need to re-enroll into the next cohort.

The first All Access $5 USD payment is due on your programme start date. All subsequent payments are due one month from your programme start date, and will be communicated in your eHub profile and over email. Should you miss your payment deadline, your eHub access will be paused and you will have two weeks to make your payment and reactivate your profile. Your access will be restored again as soon as your payment is made. If you don’t make payment within your two week reactivation period, you will be considered as dropped out and will be required to reapply to your programme to continue.

A. ALX Learners have the option to defer their programme start date with the following guidance:

1. Your first All Access Payment is non-refundable: ALX All Access gives you access the full community, events, content and benefits and you will remain active on the system, even if you defer your programme start date. You will have the option to freeze your monthly payments until your deferred start date; in this case your next payment will be due by your new cohort start date.

2. You will not be able to carry your learning progress forward and will be required to start your cohort from week 1 – with exception of deferment after successful completion of Professional Foundations. Once a learner successfully completes Professional Foundations, deferment to any Tech Specialisation is possible in accordance with the learning calendar.

3. You will not be required to go through the admissions process and will be able to enroll into your new cohort through the ALX eHUB.
