Who is This For?
We have two categories, high school (14-18 years) and university students (18-25 years) who are passionate about coding, Computer Science, and problem-solving.
Located in Accra, Kigali, or Addis Ababa – or be able to get there and find accommodation in those cities during the Hackathon weekend.
How to Apply For The ALX African Tech Championship
We’ve simplified the application process for you! See the details for each category below.
High School Group
- Just take 10 to 15 minutes to complete the registration form. No coding experience required.
- You will hear back from us within a week after the application deadline.


University Group
A simple two-step process:
First, take 10-15 minutes to complete the registration form.
If you meet participation requirements, we will invite you to complete an online Coding Contest.
If you pass the Coding Contest, you are in!

This depends on whether you live near these cities and can cover your expenses (transport, accommodation, etc) for the ALX African Tech Championship. If you live in either Ghana, Ethiopia, or Rwanda – and can cover your expenses for the event – you’re welcome to apply.
If you live outside Ghana, Ethiopia, or Rwanda – or are unable to secure transportation and accommodation, you would not qualify to attend this event. In the future, we plan to host similar events in other ALX hubs across Africa. Stay tuned for updates.
Yes, you will require a laptop to be able to attend the ALX Tech Championship. If you don’t have a laptop nor could you borrow one for the duration of the event, we encourage you to keep an eye on the ALX page for future Tech events.
We don’t charge to apply and participate in the ALX African Tech Championship.
However, we expect you to cover your transport to the event venue (the ALX hub in Accra, Addis Ababa, or Kigali). If you’re traveling outside these cities and need to spend the night, we also expect you to organize your own accommodation.
For the High School category, you do not need to be familiar with any tools. We will be training you on the basic tools on the 1st day of the event. You can also use the training material we share with you after you submit your registration form to start getting familiar with the basic tools.
For the University category, the ALX African Tech Championship will focus on solving data structures and algorithm problems, requiring strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and optimization skills. You should be familiar with concepts like sorting, searching, graph theory, and dynamic programming. We can expect familiarity with common programming languages such as C/C++, Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, Rust, PHP, Ruby, etc. You do NOT need to know all these languages, but be proficient in at least one of them.
